The Hood River
From Dee to Tucker
The Hood River is a classic run for locals after a rain storm.
This section begins about 20 minutes out of town and you can easily
drop a car on the way up at the Tucker Bridge. This section river
is continuous Class III with a few easy Class IV rapids.
You actually start on the East Fork of the Hood and run it for about a mile or so until you meet the beautiful West Fork of the Hood. Here the action eases up a bit as the river doubles in size. Towards the end are several easy Class IV rapids formed when the rivers splits around some islands. We found that the best runs were down the right channel.
You'll take out at the Tucker Bridge which is a fun team building excercise if you're a rafter. Kayakers will enjoy their steep walk up. The best part of this run are the homemade milkshakes at a quaint store.
This run changed quite a bit since the 2006 floods that silted in the riverbed and should continue to change.
