The White Salmon River
BZ Corner to Husum Falls
This is the classic run for the entire area due to its continuous nature,
great scenery, and proximity to Hood River, Oregon. There is a very nice
public put-in in BZ Corner with a raft rollercoaster for getting your
rafts down to the river.
The White Salmon starts off with Maytag, a solid Class IV rapid with a couple meaty holes. Below here are Grasshopper, Corkscrew, Waterspout, and Stairstep. After a few miles of nearly continuous whitewater, the action eases and the canyon opens up. The run ends with Husum Falls, a 10 foot waterfall drop just above a bridge. You can take out just above the falls on the right or test your luck by running this big drop. There is a take out just below the falls on the left or you can float a few miles to NW Lake.
Some rafting outfitters have permission to launch at put-ins above BZ Corner. This adds several fun class IV rapids as well as a portage around a class V waterfall complete with cliff jump!
