Running in Post Canyon
Various length trail run
Post canyon is best know for it's huge mountain bike jumps, but the
lower part makes for a terrific (or should I say awesome)
out and back trail run. The mountain bikers are friendly
and if you go running at an off time you won't run into many
bikes.
To get there, take Cascade Ave towards the East part of town. Just before you reach the onramp for Interstate 84, take a left on Country Club Road. You'll go a mile or two and then take a right on Post Canyon Road. Follow Post Canyon Road about a mile or so until the road becomes dirt and you see obvious parking on the right side of the road.
The trail begins by paralleling the dirt road on wonderful singletrack. The trail is fairly obvious and the key is to keep going up the canyon. The further up you go, the more fun wooden bridges you'll get to cross. A good run (which I think is 4-5 miles) is to go up to the mountain bike course called "Family Man" and then come back.
This is great trail running and is at times on steep terrain with unstable footing. In the winter and spring months the trail is muddy and you could at times be running through water. In the drier months, the trail can get dusty so you may be walking down some of the steeper hills.
